Pheno hunting[Pheno ˈhʌntɪŋ]

Definition:

The process of identifying the Cannabis phenotype with desirable traits is referred to as Pheno hunting. In genetics, a phenotype expresses observable characteristics. The features growers determine in pheno hunting may include color, smell, cannabinoid profile, resistance to pests, flowering timeframe, etc.

Cannabis breeders will grow many phenotypes of the same strain to discover which one is the best while developing a new one. Considering Cannabis growth and development, Pheno hunting takes months, even years. The reason behind this is the phenotypes should be dried and cured to ascertain their quality.

Once the best phenotype has been chosen, it will undergo cloning to produce precise duplicates. Mass production comes next, where the strains are to be sold in the market.
