Bud[bʌd]

Definition:

A bud is an embryonic plant shoot in terms of plant physiology. Growers class the majority of buds based on a variety of factors such as location and function. Essentially buds develop at the terminals of stems or the base of leaves. In some instances, buds develop into flowers that influence general shoot growth.

The term ‘bud’ is often used in cannabis culture, referring to the flower before harvesting. Buds are also the dried, cured, and consumable parts of the marijuana plant following a harvest.

A cannabis plant is exiting the vegetative stage and generates buds at about six weeks old. The plant grows two white hairs at first. This is the spot where a bud will appear.
