Chemical Compound

eleven hydroxy THC[ɪˈlɛvən-haɪˈdrɑksɪ-ˌtiːɛtʃˈsiː]

Definition:

11-Hydroxy-Δ9-tetrahydrocannabinol (11-OH-THC), often referred to as 11-hydroxy-THC, is the main active metabolite of Delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (Δ9-THC), that is created in the body after decarboxylated cannabis is ingested.

Raw cannabis contains tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA), which is converted into THC after heating (decarboxylation). Once metabolized by the body it turns into 11-hydroxy-THC and then into 11-nor-9-carboxy-THC; both compounds can be glucuronidated and mainly excreted into the urine.

Both compounds, along with THC, are tested for in blood drug tests.

11-hydroxy-THC has a similar psychoactive effect as THC, but with slower onset of effect.
